What is Your Favorite Element?
Mine is Hafnium. Two Reasons. First of all, it's totally obscure. Second of all, it is involved in two radioactive decays that help us learn about the solar system. 182Hf decays to 182W which allows us to date the formation of the core of the Earth (4.567 billion years ago). So exciting

I have never actually thought hard about my favorite element. One possibility is Mercury just because it's toxic and makes you act funny but i really like Fluorine because it's used so often in everyday things including toothpaste even though it is slightly toxic. Just posting this so yours doesn't look so lonely, Dr. Ranen :D
ReplyDeleteHaha nice Ramos, I might have to say mine is Oxygen because we need it to survive.
ReplyDeleteI'll go with calcium because it is in cheese, which is basically my life.
ReplyDeleteHannah, we also need lots of other things to survive! My two favorites are Tin (Sn) and Mercury (Hg). Pipe organs and cans are made out of tin! Mercury is cool because I studied catfish one summer that had unusually high levels of mercury and because its like a really rad silver liquid thing at room temperature.
ReplyDeleteMine is Helium. Because it makes balloons float and makes your voice sound hysterical when you inhale it. Oh AND its a noble gas. With only 2 valence electrons. I'd say its pretty rockin'
ReplyDeletemy faves are carbon and mercury :) i think carbon dating is pretty cool, and mercury because it's chemical symbol is my initials (Hg!), and it's a liquid at room temp.
ReplyDeleteand FYI, "hannah" is hannah b.
Id have to agree with Hannah and say oxygen because I happen to enjoy life and breathing and oxygen is a very big contributer to both
ReplyDeleteGo Honors Chem BLOG!!!
Californium. Also, my favorite animal is the bear, my favorite ocean the Pacific, and my favorite cities all look west.
ReplyDeleteThis business of favorites all seems a little reductive, so maybe Hydrogen is in fact my favorite with a little extra push to the oxidized version of a Hydrogen ion in order to staddle the fence.
Potassium
ReplyDeleteI like bananas and my name starts with K
My favorite would have to be xenon because Zenon is my favorite disney channel movie!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite element is defiantly gold because it is shiny and expensive and trophies are made out of it and the gold team is the best. However neon is pretty cool too.........
ReplyDeleteMy favorite element has to be Tungsten because, come on guys...
ReplyDeleteW!
(By the way Kelly, blue team dominates...it goes unsaid.)
Neon. Hands down. What would we do without neon lights? Stores wouldn't be able to catch my attention without them.
ReplyDelete(PS: I agree with Caroline's parenthetical statement.)
i have two favs: curium because its abbreviation, CM are my initials and Ytterbium just because it sounds like a fun element....also gold is pretty great!
